Thanks for describing a successful system in the Galapagos for preventing companion animal overpopulation and the resulting shelter mess. Adopting a system that works in a small island nation would be challenging for the U.S., yet could be done with enough energy and money behind it.

How do you suggest getting legislators and other stakeholders onboard to fund such a system? Those of us who read shelter “euth lists” daily and try to save animals one by one have had enough.

It felt like the continental U.S. was moving in this direction during the early part of this century, with generous spay/neuter grants available from several large funders. But Maddies and Best Friends abandoned the ship and began taking other funders down with them and now we are awash with unwanted litters.
