I feel bad for participating in the Beluga Encounter at Shedd Aquarium years ago.

I feel horrid for petting an orca at Sea World whenI was 12. :(. I know we know better now, but we should have know better then too.

This thing about animal tourism really bothers me. Touching and interacting with wildlife should never happen. The whole point of our lizard brains was to make us fearful of large predators that will eat us. How did we end up thinking that interacting with them was better?

Also, this interesting story about seals with rabies in South Africa. (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/article/2024/jul/11/cape-fur-seals-rabies-surfers-south-africa)

Don't feel bad, Barb. We can only do better when we know better! Now you know! ;-)

Indeed I do. I can’t believe they still offer that program.

Why do people think its ok to pet these animals? Its not. Just because they’re in a convreate tank does not mean they’re 100% domesticated. They’re still wild animals with wild animal needs and behaviours. We’re so ignorant as a species to think we have full domination over a wild animal.

Squizz, I think many people so long for a connection with nature that they fall easy victim to the charlatan enterprises. What we need is better public awareness and stronger regulations and enforcement.
