I think the message is out there, and folks are getting pets - if only for a while. In an aging society, we would hope that people over 65 getting a pet would 1) opt for a senior pet and 2) make provision for the re-homing of the pet when the adopter goes into a nursing home or hospital or dies. This happens more than people realize and the pet (especially cats) end up on the streets or turned away from an overcrowded shelter.

It’s great to see the research backing what we’ve all experienced anecdotally. Every dog I shared my life with changed me for the better.
